Flickr 4.0: A Big Step Forward
Flickr has been around for a long time and for quite a while dominated the on-line photo space. But that was a long time ago and it hasn't kept up with the likes of other on-line services from Google, Apple and other services like Instagram, Shutterfly and Snapfish. Yahoo bought Flickr some 10 years ago and like many of its other properties, let it languish. But an upgraded Flickr is back now with some pretty impressive features, the leading of which is 1 TB of free space. That's right 1 TB! That's more than enough to hold every photo you own or will ever own. Other services give you limited free space. This is virtually unlimited.
The second big feature, auto backup, either from your smartphone or your desktop/laptop computer, will search out and find all your photos, even on an external HD, and upload them in the background. It ignores duplicates. Another big feature is that all your photos are private until such time as you decide to share them.
Finally there's a new on-line interface to view, organize and edit your photos. It's still a bit clunky, but it's a big improvement over what was there before and will only improve as time goes on. So what's not to like? Here is David Pogue's review.
This will definitely be part of our Show and Tell on May 26, but those of you who visit the Forum are getting it first.
