Browser Hesitations -- finally resolved ???
I started a Firefox hesitates post back in April and never resolved the problem. Today, 1 August, it has irritated me enough that I tried to find an answer once again by googling "browser hesitates". I do not have the faintest idea why I did not see this particular post back in April since it is from a 2010 WebMaster Firefox Browser Usage and Support Forum post. And, that said, the poster said he found it in a 2008 thread. Oh, well...........
QUOTE: Flash-cookies (Local Shared Objects, LSO) are pieces of information placed on your computer by a Flash plugin. Those Super-Cookies are placed in central system folders and so protected from deletion. They are frequently used like standard browser cookies. Although their threat potential is much higher as of conventional cookies, only few users began to take notice of them. It is of frequent occurrence that -after a time- hundreds of those Flash-cookies reside in special folders. And they won't be deleted - never.
After installing the BetterPrivacy [addons.mozilla.org] add on . . . the hesitations have virtually stopped. As I type this, FF is consuming 183,324 K of memory, but there's no hint of hesitation so I am beginning to think it was never a memory issue to begin with. UNQUOTE

WIKIPEDIA supports this:
Local shared objects (LSOs), commonly called Flash cookies (due to their similarities with HTTP cookies), are pieces of data that websites which use Adobe Flash may store on a user's computer. Local shared objects are used by all versions of Adobe Flash Player and version 6 and above of Macromedia's now-obsolete Flash Player. An important use of these types of files is storing save data from Flash games on the user's computer. While websites may use local shared objects for purposes such as storing user preferences, there have been privacy concerns regarding local shared objects, and they may be considered a breach of browser security.
This made sense when I read it because I kind of remember starting to use Flash back then. I had not been watching anything that needed it before then so disabled it. Early this year, I change my web viewing habits.
I added two Firefox privacy ad-ons, one of which was Better Privacy. Hesitations while scrolling and typing are gone, hopefully for good. So now 10 minutes after installing, it looks like those LSO cookies were the culprit.
Once again I must acknowledge Mike See's superior wisdom and thank him for continuously beating me on the head and shoulders to Google my problems before calling people for help I can get by myself.
