Finally, On to El Capitan Empty Finally, On to El Capitan

Mac OS 10.11, El Capitan was released 8 months ago and I am only now getting around to upgrading. In the past I have been a early adopter, generally installing it within days or weeks of its release. There are always going to be bugs that aren't identified and only get fixed over time. Many have adopted the view that they won't upgrade until the first point release, i.e., version 10.11.1, comes out. By that time, usually 2-3 months, most of the really bad ones have been fleshed out and fixed. Those who depend on their Mac for their livelihood usually hold off even longer.

Yet there are a category of things that can really ruin your day. One of those is WiFi. If your WiFi gets messed up, particularly on a MacBook, you're pretty much out of business. I had read many reports of WiFi issues with El Capitan, so I held back. There were also a lot of things going on in my life and dealing with these technical distractions was not something I wanted to spend my time on. Besides, everything was going along smoothly although there were an increasing number of beach balls.

But once back from our European vacation, things had settle down enough to have a go at it. I am a heavy user of the Notes app and I was unable to take advantage of it's nearest features while still on Yosemite. So I did my SuperDuper (clone) backup and was as ready as I would ever be.

The upgrade is pretty big, weighing in at better than 6 GB. It took just on two hours to download it. It took another hour to run the install. The upgrade was seamless. The only scare was that half way through the download, it started to rain and when that happens around here a power failure is often not far behind. If that have occurred during the download and installation, things could have gone sideways pretty quick. Then it would have been necessary to restore the SuperDuper backup and start again. Fortunately that didn't happen. So the Mac Mini is up to date. The MacBook Air will be next.

I'm going to have to review some of the changes that came with El Capitan, but one thing I saw right off the bat is that it is snappier and performance is definitely better. In addition to now having a fully-functional Notes app, I like the split screen capability. I expect I'll get some use out of that. So if you've been holding off, I can tell you from this side that things are fine.

Finally, On to El Capitan Empty Multiple Dictionaries

Another thing I just noticed in El Capitan is that since I am using multiple keyboards on my Mac Mini, any English word I look up in the dictionary by doing a right click also gives me the meaning in Thai. Great feature.
