iTunes backup and transfer of data between your iOS devices and your Mac/Windows machine gets clunkier and clunkier. iCloud backup of your iOS devices works very well providing you have enough space up there. The more devices you have and the larger their capacity, the more space you're going to need.

Now there's a product called iMazing, which simplifies this and offers some management capabilities that are no longer available through iTunes. It's been around since 2014 from a Swiss company named DigiDNA. It's not for everyone, but if you want some control over the data you've backed up, iMazing is a valuable utility. I've known about iMazing for more than a year through podcasts I listen to. It's gotten enthusiastic reviews.

I finally decided to purchase the product over the holidays when it was being offered at a 20% discount. That brought the price for a single copy down from $40 to $32. That's not cheap for a Mac/Windows app, but is a value for a great product that provides ongoing updates and support. After all I want the product to be improved and be around for years to come. Check out its features and see if it's something you'd want in your toolbox.

In light of the whole iPhone depleted battery controversy, I have found another nice feature of iMazing. It gives you a boatload of battery statistics for your iOS devices that you are backing up, the most important of which is battery health, the number in the green circle. If that number is 80% or lower you are liable to have your processor speed throttled. In this case my iPhone 6 with a battery health of 92% is still doing great.

Apple says that it will provide some kind of metric in an upcoming software update, but iMazing provides this easily accessible information for any and all iOS devices that you are backing up.
