Mac/iPhone/iPad Repairs (non warranty)
Howard recently had a horror story after getting his iPad and iPhone repaired at the Mac Cafe on Huay Kaew Road, between Canal Road and the CMU gate. It's on the left side of the street, just before The Boat restaurant. Almost right across the street in a soi to the right is another place, identified only with a sign that say "Mac" is another place where Howard had all the problems fixed that either weren't fixed by Mac Cafe or induced by the Mac Cafe. Now Howard is a happy camper.

Here are some additional photos pointing to the location of the Mac Repair shop. Keep in mind the guy repairs Macs, iPads and iPhones. Again this place is located on Huay Kaew Road as you head west toward the zoo, half way between Canal Road and the entrance to CMU.

The soi is the only one on the right side of the road along this stretch of Huay Kaew, just before that large, orange colored building.

This photo was taken at the entrance to the soi. You can see the internet cafe at the mouth of the soi.

The shop itself is rather small and about 2/3 of the way into the soi, on the right.

Re: Mac/iPhone/iPad Repairs (non warranty)
Despite the fact that we have had some good feedback about the Mac Shop, my experience there does give me some pause. This is why.
The earphone jack on my Mac Mini no longer operates as it should. Normally when you plug something into it, the sound to the onboard speakers cuts off and you hear the sound through the earbuds or external speaker. As it is, the sound continues to play through the speakers and I hear nothing through the external device.
When I took it in to the tech he seemed perplexed. At first he tried to tell me it was because of the plug on my external speaker. I told him that it worked fine until last week. I also told him that it didn't work with the Apple earbuds either. He tried it himself with a set of his earbuds and it didn't work for him either. He couldn't offer an explanation. Finally he said it would take about three days and cost about 2,000 baht to fix. I told him I would think about it.
I have concluded that he really didn't know what might be wrong and wasn't all that interested in finding out. He probably hasn't come across this problem before. I think it may be the case that those things he has done in the past, like changing a cracked screen or replacing a battery, he is quite good at. This is something new and he may not be all that anxious to figure it out given the other repair jobs on his plate.
I may yet give him that chance. If I do, I will certainly report back.

Re: Mac/iPhone/iPad Repairs (non warranty)
I am happy to report that I have resolved the problem I was having with the earphone jack on my iPad Mini. I have given considerable thought to this problem since taking it to the Mac Shop and was about to go the Google route when I thought I would try one more thing, something very elementary, I would power it down and start it up again, yes a reboot. And guess what, it worked. Problem solved.
So I am going to give the tech at the Mac Shop a pass on this one.
