This SS7 vulnerability has been known for several years now and it affects every cellphone because it exploits a flaw in the basic cellphone infrastructure. Carriers have always had to exchange messages between their networks or folks on DTAC, for example, couldn't roam or call people on AIS or TrueMove. Initially these network connections were wired between the carriers, but then along came the internet where there are many ways of infiltrating and hacking these networks. As a result all bets are off and this report from 60 Minutes, the US magazine program, will show just how that can be done by just knowing someone's phone number. So, sit back, but don't relax, because this may unsettle you.
