Ever since the release of iOS 12, I have been bedeviled by the new method of adding, deleting, and arranging icons. It was rather straight forward before that, but with iOS 12, one required a different touch regimen. I have had limited success with it and even after visiting an Apple Store in the US, I just wasn't getting the hang of it. It wasn't until this article that the fog was lifted from my eyes and I am now doing it like a champ.
