Mac OS Catalina (10.15): A crucial Upgrade
If you have been wondering where Mac OS has been heading, Mac OS Catalina, 10.15, is a culmination of sorts. This article is a deep dive into what Apple has been up to. It’s a very enlightening read.

There’s a lot going on and the upgrade process may take a while, so give yourself some time and be patient when you upgrade. Also because 32-bit applications won’t run under Catalina, you may want to find out beforehand if you have any of these and if you do and they are critical for you, you will want to find substitute apps that will run. Finally you will want to do a backup, preferably a cloned backup, that you can go back to if there are any upgrade problems, but also that you will want to keep as an archive should you find yourself in some kind of hole 6 months from now, something you can go back to. Two Mac apps that can help with this 32-bit problem are Mac Updater and Go 64.
All in all this is one of those upgrades that you will want to prepare for and one you don’t want to rush into. The common wisdom is to wait for the first point update, i.e. 10.15.1, so most of the more serious bugs can be fixed before jumping in. Proceed with caution while at the same time knowing there’s a lot of good stuff in this upgrade.
