Ditching the Mac for an iPad
I can echo much of what the author of the article says about his use of the iPad Pro. I purchased an iPad Pro 10.5" about a year ago. I heard all the hype about the iPad Pro being able to do most of the things one would do on a laptop, but I was skeptical. Over the course of the year I used the iPad Pro more and more in place of my desktop Mac Mini and my aging MacBook Air.
One several foreign trips I took both the MacBook Air and the iPad Pro along. Mostly I used the iPad, but the lack of real keyboard kept me going back to the MacBook Air. This year I made a concerted effort to favor the iPad, leaving the MacBook Air and only taking the iPad Pro on several side trips lasting weeks. i found that there was nothing I couldn't do on the iPad Pro that required me to use the MacBook Air.
As a result I will not be replacing my mid 2011 MacBook Air anytime soon, even though a new one was just announced at the Apple October event at the end of that month. The new bezel-less iPad Pro makes the case for it being the device of preference even more compelling.

Re: Ditching the Mac for an iPad
Here’s an update to the question as to whether the iPad Pro could replace your laptop or even your desktop. It all comes down to what it is that you need to do with your devices.
For me the friction in using the iPad Pro over a laptop is pretty small. I’m less likely to prefer it over my Mac Mini because they are some functions and multitasking that the Mini does better.
I’m providing a link of a review of the newly released iPad Pros by Nilay Patel of the Verge, in which he addresses this same question, but for his use cases comes to a different conclusion.
